why postcards?

When I was 18, I spent five months living with my uncle, Onki Remco, in Amsterdam. Every day before walking upstairs to our apartment, Onki would check the mailbox and jokingly say…

“Let’s see if I have friends today.”

Onki always sent postcards to friends, fam and lovers during his travels. He knew how fun it was to open your mailbox to a handwritten surprise, instead of just bills and ads.

Over time, he discovered that when you send more handwritten mail, you receive more handwritten mail.

Since then, our inside joke, “YOU HAVE FRIENDS” has graced the title of hundreds of postcards exchanged within our family.

Inspired by an intentional balance of simplicity with attention to detail,

YHF was born to revive the art of pen+paper connection in an increasingly digital age.
